A glow discharge ion source with fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometric detection.

چکیده
A glow discharge (CD) ion source has been coupled to a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer using a four-element electrostatic lens to accelerate and focus ions generated external to the instrument's high magnetic field into its analyzer cell. Like other CD mass spectrometers, GD-FT-ICR can provide a quantitative measure of bulk analyte concentration with good precision and accuracy. Although detection limits currently attainable are several orders of magnitude higher than the commercially available magnetic sector-based instrument, CD-FT-ICR holds promise for ultrahigh resolving power elemental mass analysis. Several schemes are proposed to lower the detection limits of the technique while still providing high enough resolution to resolve isobaric interferences.

Utilizing artificial neural networks in MATLAB to achieve parts-per-billion mass measurement accuracy with a fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer.
Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry has the ability to realize exceptional mass measurement accuracy (MMA); MMA is one of the most significant attributes of mass spectrometric measurements as it affords extraordinary molecular specificity. However, due to space-charge effects, the achievable MMA significantly depends on the total number of ions trapped in the ICR cell fo...
متن کاملFourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry: a primer.
This review offers an introduction to the principles and generic applications of FT-ICR mass spectrometry, directed to readers with no prior experience with the technique. We are able to explain the fundamental FT-ICR phenomena from a simplified theoretical treatment of ion behavior in idealized magnetic and electric fields. The effects of trapping voltage, trap size and shape, and other nonide...

We have systematically established the excitation frequency, amplitude, duration, and buffer gas pressure for optimal axialization efficiency and mass selectivity of quadrupolar excitation-collisional cooling for isolation of parent ions for collision-induced dissociation in Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. For example, at high quadrupolar excitation amplitude, ion a...

UNLABELLED Progress is reviewed towards the development of a global strategy that aims to extend the sensitivity, dynamic range, comprehensiveness and throughput of proteomic measurements based upon the use of high performance separations and mass spectrometry. The approach uses high accuracy mass measurements from Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR) to validate ...
متن کاملDetection Techniques for On-Line Mass Determination with Penning Traps
A Penning trap mass spectrometer is a well established instrument for the precise mass determination of both, stable and short-lived nuclides. For this purpose two different concepts are employed. Masses of stable species are mostly determined by the non-destructive detection of image currents induced in the trap electrodes and a subsequent Fourier transformation (FT). For short-lived nuclides ...
